Skateboard Park - update on progress

As reported in the Coalville & Ashby Times, the lease at the skateboard park is currently under review.

Continuing damage and anti-social behaviour in the park is an increasing cause for concern to the Council and to residents in the vicinity.

The parish council have no plans to repair the damaged cameras or the brickwalls which have been vandalised.

At this time, no decision has been made on whether to close the park.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE AT SKATEBOARD PARK

On Monday 1st May at approximately 7.30 pm.,The closed circuit TV cameras were totally destroyed.

These cameras were mounted on a pylon bolted to the brick wall high above the skateboard park.
Persons (so far unnamed) ripped the entire fitting from the wall and threw the pole and cameras into the adjoining paddock.

We know that kids will be kids, and frustration/boredom plays a part in their behaviour. But, this is not a case of some childish prank. This is deliberate criminal damage and it will take many thousands of pounds to replace the equipment !

The Police were in attendance quite quickly and took the names of all persons there at that time.
They are now studying CCTV recordings to identify the culprits, they are also making other investigations.

If sufficient evidence is forthcoming, the parish council will seek to prosecute the offenders and, apply for reparations/costs.

As you are probably aware, The Parish Council receives funding directly from the council tax and so, it is the local residents who will have to foot the bill, yet again, for these mindless acts.

Frequently such acts are down to one or two individuals; if we can identify these and take action against them, it will go a long way to curing the problem.

We would encourage all residents to report anything they know to Leicestershire Police on 0116 2222222

Alternatively,
call Crimestoppers on 0800 777 111
(calls are totally confidential and can even be anonymous)
